I've mentioned how well I like Burt's Bees Garden Tomato Facial Soap, but have I told you how well it clogs toilets? No? Let me tell you!
About five days ago, Will grabbed my soap and tossed it into the toilet. Rich tried to retrieve it, but it slipped on down through the trap and was lost. This was NOT good. I tried, to no avail, to plunge it so that the commode would work again. I spoke extensively to Kathy about this problem and received helpful hints. She suggested that I pour a large pot of boiling water down the toilet. Yeah! That should work, I mean, soap should melt in hot water.
Nope...not Burt's Bees Garden Tomato Facial Soap. All I got for my trouble was a delicate aroma of the soap in question from the commode. Nice.
She then suggested a plumber's snake. I found one in our closet and could not get it to work. I later found out that plumber's snakes shouldn't be used in toilets or they will scratch the porcelain. Kathy is not a plumber, by the way.
Steve suggested Drano. So, I had Rich bring some home and read the back of the bottle. It stated that Drano should not be used in toilets. Since when have I let that stop me? I poured the whole bottle down the toilet and plunged, carefully, to push the stuff down past the trap. It didn't work. Did I mention that Steve is not a plumber either?
So I got online and I found a plumbing site. It told me that I needed a toilet auger. Did I mention that I saw this on a plumbing site wrote by actual *plumbers*? Rich and I made our way into the bathroom and aug'ed the heck out of that toilet. I rooted that thing out probably five or six times. It still didn't flush right, but at least the water would go down without plunging heavily.
This morning, a miracle had occurred! Apparently all of that finally loosened the soap up enough to flush it through. I am happy to report that we can now use the downstairs toilet once again freely! A miracle has occurred!
Other than that? Nothing much. Made some wonderful blueberry muffins today.
Here are some more cool links that I have found using the random websurfer:
Botanical.com A large collection of information on herbs and home remedies
Gray's Anatomy A nice online version of the book
Yoursurgery.com Having surgery soon? Read more about what they are going to do to you here.
Engrish.com Hilarious...go here to see how labels get screwed up when they are translated into English from foreign countries.
Omigosh!! I don't mean to laugh, but that is too funny! Soap in the toilet! Sorry. I am done. I am sorry about the soap.
